Happiness

Happiness - a subject I think about often. How do I achieve this? When I think back to childhood, I remember always fretting or worrying or wanting something out of my reach. I know I had fun, but I can't remember any specific event in my life where I thought to myself 'I am so happy!'.  Then the years of teen aged angst led to brooding years in early adulthood. I blamed that on my creative nature as a writer. All writers are moody, depressed, brooding and troubled. Right? That's what I told myself, anyway. And I can honestly say, I was absolutely 'emo' before anyone came up with that ridiculous moniker. I've always been this way and I really can't pinpoint why. I had a fairly normal childhood, and while I didn't really enjoy my time in high school, it wasn't a brutal time for me. College years were wasted trying to figure out who I was - I'm still working on that. But happiness, that really has been something I've chased for years, never quite catching it. I know I've thought I was happy, however hindsight proves otherwise. So I googled 'how to be a happier person'. Quite a lot of information out there. And although some seem like no-brainers, I wonder why it is so difficult for so many people to just be happy?

Well, I've decided I'm going to do my absolute best to BE HAPPY. I had decided that for Lent this year I would get back to eating healthy. This means no processed food, no sugar, limited caffeine, limited dairy and very little starch. I've also decided that slacking on the exercise front is no longer an option. So while I focus on regaining my physical health, I believe I will add being happy to my list of things to change in that 40 day project. And you know, with changing my eating habits and getting more exercise, this goal might just be a lot easier than I expected!

(If you want to know more about my ways of eating & great recipes, check out this blog: marksdailyapple.com - it may seem a bit odd at first, but I can guarantee, if you try to change your eating habits to follow this, you will really start to feel SO much better! It's not easy to stick to it all the time, with all the 'temptations' that try to lure you in, but if you even make a 50% change, it will make an impact. If you aren't sure, look for SUCESS STORIES on the site -if that doesn't make you a believer, well I don't think anything will :)

  1. Here is a quote from a documentary I watched over the weekend, perfect.
"Nobody can really be happy. You can have moments of happiness, moments of joy, but life is very difficult–unless you’re a total idiot, then you can be happy"

  2. Well that sums things up perfectly! At least I know I'm not an idiot!
